2022

APRIL 25 - 30
Sunset over the Sea of Galilee
Day and Evening Attire Planning
There will never be a need for a pressed button-down shirt or a dress jacket for men, nor heels or fancy outfits for women. It’s all completely casual.
April 25 is Eliana’s birthday and she’ll be 25 on the 25th. She wanted an evening party by the beach in Jaffa at our friends’ place, the Perrys, whose son Edo is one of Josh’s best friends from the Hausner Jewish Day School when they lived in Palo Alto. Their venue is gorgeous and outdoors, and right on the beach with a boardwalk and cement floor. White clothing preferred, but don’t go out and buy something. A white or cream top with dark or tan pants is fine too. Ladies: A simple dress or top/pants. Sandals or flip flops are recommended so that you can kick them off to twinkle your toes in the soft Jaffa sand just at the end of the restaurant’s patio. There will be a lot of candles!
AM Bike rides and hikes: Temperatures may be in the 50’s or 60’s. Bring a cycling jacket. We use arm-warmers which are like detachable sleeves. There are leg-warmers too. They’re both great as they are easily removed when you warm up. We’ll have vans along the way, so you can drop off jackets and other clothing if you get too warm. We use a Camelback for water, which is a great approach for both biking and hiking. We’ll be providing each of you with your very own water bottle for all your hydration needs. We’ll have purified water to pour into your water bottles.
Cyclists: We suggest you bring 2 or 3 cycling jerseys or t-shirts and a few cycling shorts that you can rinse out in the sink after riding for re-use. A few pairs of bike gloves and socks. Cycling shoes as needed: if you are bringing your own pedals for a racing bike (you know who you are), then bring your shoes. If you are using flat pedals, which is everyone on hybrid and ebikes, you can wear sneakers. You might want to carry your tote with those arm-warmers, a light wind jacket, and a warm jacket if it’s chilly. We like the kind that have pockets in the back for a phone and some snacks. ;) We will have helmets and snacks for everyone.
Hikers: There are walks for all levels and paces. No need for high-top hard-core boots – these are sneaker-ready hikes on dirt paths and some paved paths. We’ll be giving you a baseball cap and a water bottle. You might bring a backpack or other fanny-pack for the water bottle, some snacks and a jacket.
Afternoons and evenings: Gary demanded some rest and email time in the afternoons, or Laura would be scheduling non-stop activities. The spa has some amazing massage and other treatments available – we’ll be in touch with reservation options. After the well-earned rest, we will be departing to go on tours between 3-5pm with a lot of walking. If it’s warm, you can wear comfortable sandals. Sneakers are fine for all temperatures. We will be primarily outside. It’s best to wear tops that can transition into casual dinners, except on April 27, when we’ll be at the Spa for dinner (see below). If it’s warm, you can wear lightweight casual pants or shorts for the touring. But, always bring a jacket.
We’ll be giving you a canvas bag for you to bring anything that you want for later in the evening. We’ll be shlepping you around in big vans on which you can bring and/or leave your tote. Dinners each night are outdoors, except for April 27, which is Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance day) when we will be in a tent near our Spa hotel. You will be able to change clothes before that dinner.
On the last night, April 29, we’ll be in the Akko Templar Tunnels, where we will be dancing and singing the night away. We will be touring the tunnels (which are stone tunnels with very high ceilings) so wear pants and sneakers or walking sandals. Bring layers (e.g. sweaters & jackets), as it can get chilly in those tunnels – maybe in the 60’s F… but all that dancing will warm you up! Gold stars to everyone who can get Gary to dance 3 songs in a row with Laura!
This is the most casual, easy-going party trip you’ll ever have taken. Plan accordingly!
